On average 16 primary school children are harmed every day on UK roads and as a key materials supplier to the highways sector, Breedon is committed to engaging with primary schools across the UK to raise awareness of how to stay safe on the roads.
During Road Safety Week 2025, colleagues from across Breedon engaged with their local primary schools, delivering a range of engaging and thought-provoking sessions, including our flagship 'Be Safe Be Seen' workshop, which emphasises the importance of being visible as a pedestrian on the roads in the winter months.
Nottinghamshire – Gamston St Peters C of E Primary School
Colleagues from our GB Materials team visited Gamston St Peters with one of our ready-mix lorries, using ground mats to demonstrate blind spots and help children understand where pedestrians are most at risk around large vehicles. The team also delivered our 'Be Safe, Be Seen' workshop to more than 100 pupils and donated nearly £350 worth of hi-vis vests to support safer journeys to and from school.
Leicestershire – St Hardulph’s School
Our head office team spent a full morning delivering road safety activities to all pupils aged 4–11. Children had the opportunity to explore a mixer truck up close and learn why visibility is crucial when interacting with large vehicles. To reinforce this message, Breedon donated 50 reflective armbands for pupils to use on their daily journeys.
West Yorkshire – Netherthong Primary School
Colleagues from our surfacing team supported a dedicated road safety day at Netherthong Primary, which included a whole-school assembly and a hands-on PPE activity for pupils in Years 4–6. The sessions helped pupils understand the importance of safe behaviour around construction and surfacing equipment.
North Yorkshire – Hambleton C of E Primary School
Our RMX team delivered the 'Be Safe, Be Seen' workshop to pupils, focusing on how to stay safe near busy roads and large vehicles. Rocky, the Breedon mascot, joined the visit along with one of our mixers, giving children the chance to learn about blind spots and the importance of staying visible in a fun and memorable way.
During Road Safety Week 2025, our primary school road safety programme delivered tangible safety benefits for young people, with interactive activities and vehicle demonstrations helping children recognise hazards and adopt safer habits around roads.
The donation of hi-vis equipment ensured these lessons extended beyond the classroom, strengthening our commitment to supporting safer communities wherever we operate.
