Product Overview & Why Use Breedon Fibre Reinforced Concrete

Fibres can be used in many different concrete mixes to significantly enhance their performance by improving durability, toughness, and crack resistance.

Fibre distribution throughout the concrete mix helps to control shrinkage cracking during drying and increases the materials ability to absorb energy, making it more ductile and resistant to sudden failure. Fibres also improve the tensile and flexural strength of concrete, allowing it to better withstand bending and tension forces.

Our fibre-reinforced concrete can reduce or even eliminate the need for traditional steel reinforcement, making construction faster, more economical, and less labour-intensive.

Applications

Our fibre reinforced concrete can be used in a wide range of applications, including:

  • External pavements
  • Industrial floor slabs
  • Tunneling and underground structures
  • Precast concrete products
  • Shotcrete applications
  • Housing oversites
  • Marine structures

Key Benefits

Improved crack control

Increased toughness and ductility

Enhanced tensile, flexural and impact strength

Better durability

Faster and easier construction

FAQs

Micro and macro fibres enhance the crack resistance and toughness of concrete. Micro fibres help control plastic shrinkage and early-age cracking, while macro fibres improve post-crack performance, energy absorption, and structural ductility.

Fibres reduce the formation and widening of cracks, which helps prevent water ingress, chemical attack, and reinforcement corrosion. This leads to longer service life and less maintenance over time.

In some cases, especially for slabs, pavements, precast elements, and shotcrete, macro fibres can partially or fully replace steel mesh, making construction faster, safer, and more cost-effective—especially in areas with complex shapes or access challenges.
