We are committed to the principles of the circular economy and the responsible use of resources, including minerals and water.

We will seek to minimise waste and maximise the reuse and recycling of resources throughout our operations.

Resource use and waste

We seek to maximise resource use in line with the waste hierarchy of waste prevention, reuse, recycling, co-processing and energy recovery and target reductions in total waste generated and waste sent to landfill.

Our efforts include:

  • Using resources appropriately and sustainably and, where practicable, seeking to substitute primary resources with alternative materials
  • Expanding on the use of alternative fuels and raw materials in cement manufacture, where practicable, by enhancing mutually beneficial relationships with external industries
  • Working with our waste contractors to ensure landfill diversion rates are improved
  • Ensuring our operational teams receive quality training in relevant waste management practices

Water

We recognise that water scarcity is a growing global concern and we aim to manage this precious resource in the most responsible manner, especially as we too depend on water to manufacture our products.

Our efforts include:

  • Using water saving initiatives such as sensor systems and water flow regulators
  • Using recycled or reclaimed water as an alternative to fresh water
  • Monitoring water quality discharge at the facility level, according to permitting and other regulatory requirements
  • Reducing water consumption in our processes and products
