Porous asphalt (PA) is used as a Surface course on roads or as a designed feature of SuDS drainage systems.

Our PA is a blend of a high proportion of single size coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, filler and polymer modified binder.
When combined the end product is an open, gap graded mixture that derives strength from the polymer modified binder. Porous asphalt is manufactured in accordance with EN 13108-7. Porous asphalt is produced with a polymer modified binder. When used as a Surface course layer on roads and airfields, Porous asphalt provides low noise and spray properties due to the very high void content.
Porous asphalt materials are used in both the Surface and Binder layers when forming part of a SuDS drainage system. A SuDS system has the objective of minimising the impact that surface water runoff has on a developments environment. The high void content of Porous asphalt facilitates the rapid surface drainage through the pavement where the rainwater is then released in a controlled manner by the SuDS design.
