Cement is supplied in bulk tankers, typically 20-30 tonnes per load and blown pneumatically into on-site silos. Delivery requirements such as tanker size, pipe length, and access should be discussed in advance to ensure safe and efficient offloading.
A standard silo should be able to accommodate at least one full tanker load, with sufficient headroom to avoid overfilling. Most customers opt for silos ranging from 50 -100 tonnes depending on their usage.
Cement should be stored in a dry, weather-tight silo with efficient filters and aeration systems to maintain flow. Moisture is the main risk - even small amounts of water can cause setting and blockages.
Yes. Breedon offer a lower-carbon cement. Our CEMII 52.5 which offers reduce CO₂ without compromising performance.
Ensure silo filters are clean, your high level alarm is fitted and in working order, the silo is not overfilled, and site access is clear for the tanker. A competent person should be present to supervise and confirm delivery.
Cement is alkaline and can cause skin irritation or burns if not handled properly. Always follow COSHH guidance, use appropriate PPE, and ensure silo safety systems (pressure relief valves, filters) are maintained.
