RAP (Recycled Asphalt Planings)

RAP is created by recycling material from old roads and incorporating it into new asphalt mixes.

By reusing these valuable aggregates and binders, RAP reduces waste, conserves natural resources, and supports a more circular approach to road construction, all while contributing to a reduced carbon footprint.

Get in touch about RAP (Recycled Asphalt Planings)

Product Overview

Asphalt is inherently recyclable, and RAP is key innovation that allows us to reclaim and reuse our existing roads to preserve the high‑value aggregates and the aged asphalt binder already within them..

When asphalt roads are removed through the process of planing, the recovered material can be crushed, screened, and repurposed into new asphalt mixes. This not only reduces the need for virgin materials but also improves transport efficiency by allowing trucks to be backloaded with reusable material, maximising fleet utilisation. This circular economy model is changing the construction industry and supporting carbon reduction goals.

By incorporating RAP into our products, we transform what would otherwise be waste into a valuable resource. This reduces the demand for virgin aggregates and bitumen, which is derived from crude oil, helping to conserve natural materials and lower the environmental impact of asphalt production.

Once processed and tested, RAP can be incorporated into new asphalt mixes at levels ranging from 10% to 50%, depending on the project’s requirements. These quality controls ensure the recycled material performs just as reliably as virgin asphalt. As a result, RAP‑enhanced mixes are suitable for a wide range of applications, delivering durability and resilience comparable to traditional materials.

Why use RAP (Recycled Asphalt Planings)

Reduced environmental impact
Using recycled planings reduces the demand for virgin materials, helping to conserve our natural mineral resources.

Reduced carbon emissions
Reprocessing aged pavements lowers CO2 emissions by reducing quarrying, transport and energy use.

Supports circular economy
Utilising planings keeps material in use for longer, which promotes a closed loop approach to road construction.

Proven performance
Properly processed planings can deliver long lasting performance and match the durability of asphalt made with virgin aggregates.

High quality standards
We rigorously test and control our recycled content to make sure it meets the same quality as traditional asphalt mixes.

Applications

RAP can be incorporated into all of our asphalt mixes at levels ranging from 10 - 50%, depending on the project's requirements, to provide a more sustainable solution for all applications.

Key Benefits

Reduced environmental impact

Reduced carbon footprint compared with traditional material

Supports circular economy

Durable and long-lasting material

Matches strength of standard materials

RAP is part of our movement towards being more sustainable. It reduces waste, lowers carbon emissions and conserves our natural resources by reducing the demand for virgin aggregates and bitumen.

Recycled Asphalt Planings.

Yes - when processed correctly, RAP meets the same performance standards as virgin aggregate. All our waste products are stringently tested to ensure they are of a suitable quality before they are used in our asphalt mixes.

RAP has been tested and used extensively across the United Kingdom - materials inclusive of RAP are just as durable as virgin mixes.
