Get in touch about Sustainable Concrete

Product Overview

Concrete is the most widely used construction material in the world, but traditional concrete production is responsible for around 7 - 8% of global CO₂ emissions. Our Breedon Balance concrete range is engineered to deliver a lower carbon solution and make a material difference to the places we live, work and play.

Our sustainable concrete solutions are designed to reduce environmental impact without compromising performance. By lowering cement content and incorporating Secondary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) such as Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS), or PFA (Pulverized Fuel Ash), Silica Fume or Limestone fines we can reduce the CO₂ footprint of our concrete.

Why Use Breedon Sustainable Concrete

Recycled aggregates
We can incorporate recycled aggregates, helping preserve virgin aggregate reserves for future generations.

Reduced CO₂ emissions
Low-carbon alternatives, like our geopolymer concrete, and concretes that use GGBS significantly reduce the embodied carbon.

Efficient mix design
We optimise material usage to eliminate waste, while our focus on durability ensures the concrete lasts longer and requires less maintenance over its lifecycle.

Locally sourced materials
We prioritise the use of locally sourced materials, cutting down on transport emissions and supporting local economies.

Applications

Our sustainable concrete solutions can replace standard traditional concrete in the majority of applications to help meet sustainability goals and carbon reduction targets. This includes green buildings, large scale commercial projects and projects seeking BREEAM, LEED or Net-Zero certification.

FAQs

Yes, we can provide certificates by mix, site and project. Please speak to your Breedon representative when placing your order and they will be able to assist.

We have a variety of low carbon concretes that can be designed to meet your specific low carbon needs and specifications.

We add a range of sustainable materials and technologies to reduce the carbon in a concrete mix. This includes Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) to replace a portion of cement, recycled aggregates to help preserve natural resources, and recycled water used in the mixing process. In addition, we use superplasticisers to improve workability while allowing for a reduced cement content.
