Breedon Porous is a permeable surfacing system designed to support Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS). It typically comprises geotextiles, geogrids and/or geomembranes, an open-graded unbound granular sub-base, and porous base, binder, and surface courses. It is available with modified bitumen if required.
SuDS encourage the use of permeable materials that allow surface water to infiltrate directly into underlying drainage layers or collection systems. Breedon Porous is specifically engineered for such applications.
Suitable for car parks and other areas subject to moderate traffic, Breedon Porous features a high void content to enable the rapid and efficient dissipation of rainwater.
This durable, hard-wearing surface course helps eliminate surface water issues and can be manufactured to comply with the requirements of SHW Clause 938.

When tested in accordance with DD229: 1996, Breedon Porous has been found to have a relative hydraulic conductivity in excess of 0.2s-1, and a water infiltration rate greater than 12,000mm/hr, when determined in accordance with BS EN 12616: 2003.
This denotes a free-draining system with in situ voids of around 20%, a horizontal permeability of approximately 2.9 x 10-9, and a vertical permeability of about 3.3 x 10-6
Breedon Porous has a high void content, meaning it can help drain water faster - helping to prevent puddles, flooding and water run off.
Breedon Porous asphalt is low maintenance but it should be kept free of debris and silt to maintain permeability.
Breedon Porous can be used on a slope, but it may be reduced in efficiency on steep gradients. Site specific design should be utilised to ensure optimum permeability.
