The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR) is one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Scotland with a total construction cost of £1bn. It is a key component of Transport Scotland’s commitment to improving travel in the north east of Scotland.
The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR) is one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Scotland with a total construction cost of £1bn. It is a key component of Transport Scotland’s commitment to improving travel in the north east of Scotland.
The new route provides 58km of new dual carriageway consisting of the following four key sections:
Balmedie to Tipperty: 12km from Blackdog to Tipperty
Northern Leg: 16.1km from North Kingswells to Blackdog
Southern Leg: 18.7km from Charleston to North Kingswells
Fastlink: 11.5km from Stonehaven to Cleanhill
The project was delivered by Transport Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government and in partnership with Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council.
Breedon, as a Pavement Construction specialist, were appointed by the AWPR CJV to deliver the £55m Pavement Construction package, the largest single subcontract order on the project.
The key project deliverables consisted of the following:
Supply and laying of 575,000 tonnes of asphalt materials to construct the following:
58km of new dual carriageway
40km of new side roads
30km of access tracks and accommodation roads
2Nr river crossings at the River Dee and the River
Installation, commissioning, management, and removal on completion of 2Nr Mobile Asphalt Batching Plants strategically located at Charleston (south) and Goval (north).
