FAQs

Interlocking concrete blocks are a versatile, mortar-free building solution ideal for both temporary and permanent structures. They are commonly used for retaining walls, storage bays and bunkers, site security barriers, flood and coastal defences and as counterweight. Their stud-and-recess modular design allows for quick installation and easy reconfiguration to suit your individual requirements.

The weight of an interlocking concrete block depends on its size. Most blocks weigh between 1,000kg and 2,400kg, with heavier-duty options exceeding this. Your Breedon representative can provide the exact block specifications and weights for your project.

For temporary installations, a compacted hardcore base is often sufficient. For retaining walls or load-bearing structures, engineered foundations may be required. We recommend consulting a structural engineer to ensure your installation meets safety and performance standards.

Yes. One of the main advantages of interlocking concrete blocks is their easy relocation. They can be dismantled and moved using equipment such as a forklift, crane or telehandler, making them ideal for sites where layouts need to change frequently.

Free‑standing walls without engineering design can typically be stacked up to 2.4 m (8 ft) when using large 1,600 × 800 × 800 mm blocks. Maximum height depends on factors such as wind loads, impact risk (e.g. vehicles or machinery), and the stability of the base. Please note that walls constructed using 1,500 × 600 × 600 mm blocks with a round nib should not exceed three blocks in height. We recommend consulting a structural engineer to ensure your installation meets all relevant safety and performance standards.

We only supply the blocks and don’t provide installation. Due to their size and weight, the blocks will need to be installed using suitable equipment such as a forklift or crane.

Yes, we can supply lifting shackles. Speak to our sales team and they’ll be happy to help. We can also provide the relevant certification if needed.
