Developing leaders across the US through Management Essentials level one training

Developing leaders across the US through Management Essentials level one training

This year, we launched Management Essentials Level one training in the US as part of our commitment to integrating our colleagues into the wider Group. The programme strengthens leadership capability, builds manager confidence and fosters stronger connections across teams, supporting consistent leadership, engagement, and alignment with our Group approach.

Solution

We delivered an introductory workshop designed to explore the fundamentals of people management and equip managers for success. The session introduced key concepts of leadership and management, Breedon’s people managers competencies, and explore leadership styles. It was interactive, combining discussions, practical exercises, and real-life scenarios to help managers apply learning to their day-to-day roles.

The training was delivered in the US to support integration, foster connections across teams, and ensure consistent leadership practices aligned with the Group’s approach.

Impact

123 managers and supervisors from BMC and Lionmark have attended the Level one training, strengthening, leadership capability and building a consistent approach to people management across the US teams. Further training will be rolled out in 2026.

Launching management essentials in the US is a key step in strengthening leadership capability across the Group. By investing in our managers and creating a consistent approach to people leadership, we are supporting integration and setting our teams up for success.

Management Essentials sent the message that communication throughout my team is key to building a strong team. I’ve found myself not making quick or rash decisions, and to think before speaking. This also applies to customer relations, I've always enjoyed the bond SCP has striven to build with our customers, and this training reinforced that. I listen to my employees more closely, and try to show that their ides, opinions, and thoughts are important and relevant.
