BreedonFlex SAMI is a dense and poly modified waterproof interlay asphalt, designed to mitigate cracking in pavements by absorbing and dissipating stress and movement from underlayers.
The poly modified binder provides an element of elasticity and flexibility that absorbs traffic induced stressors. Engineered to have a low void content, the BreedonFlex SAMI material resists water ingress, protecting the pavement structure from water damage. It is designed to be flexible, meaning that it disperses the stressors from above and helps offset reflective cracking in the asphalt.
BreedonFlex SAMI removes the requirement for costly and complicated grid systems (and means the asphalt can also be recycled at the end of its life). It is designed for high fatigue and deformation resistance, and be laid over concrete and cement bound granular materials (CBGM).
This material significantly extends pavement lifespan, improves structural resilience, offers a simplified solution to cracked pavements and can be recycled.

BreedonFlex SAMI is made with an elastomeric poly modified binder which makes it more flexible than traditional asphalt. When there is a crack or stressor in the lower layers, typically asphalt would crack with it - Breedon Flex SAMI is created to prevent this from happening. It can flex with the movement underneath and prevents cracks from propagating upwards.
Yes, BreedonFlex SAMI would be suitable. It accommodates small movements in the substrate which means it offers improved resistance to permanent deformation and fatigue characteristics. This can be demonstrated in heavily trafficked sites applications.
Yes it can - before overlaying, any loose or broken material must be removed, joints 'made good' and sealed. Wherever possible, tanker applied bond coat should be used both beneath and below the BreedonFlex SAMI.
Yes, it can. It can be recycled in the same way as standard bitumous materials.
