Breedon colleagues Ewan Mitchell, Leadership & Management Development Manager, and Pauline Broadway, Chief Information Officer, delivered an Insight Discovery session to teachers and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) at St Aloysius Primary School in Oxford, supporting improved collaboration, communication, and team effectiveness across the school.
The school leadership team required support to strengthen communication, build trust, and improve overall team effectiveness. Like many education settings, understanding different working styles and enhancing collaboration across staff was critical to delivering better outcomes.
Breedon colleagues used their professional expertise to deliver a facilitated Insight Discovery session, a personal and team development tool using a colour-based model to help individuals understand their preferences, communication styles, and behaviours. Participants completed personal profiles that highlighted strengths, potential blind spots, and interaction styles.
The workshop enabled the team to build awareness of individual differences and provided practical tools to improve communication and collaboration. Through this skilled volunteering initiative, Breedon colleagues applied their professional expertise to deliver high-value input that not only addressed immediate needs but also helped build the school’s long-term capability.
The Insight Discovery session enhanced understanding of individual working styles and team dynamics across the school’s leadership team. It improved communication, highlighted individual and collective strengths, and supported more effective working relationships.
Breedon’s contribution included the donation of 15 Insight Discovery profiles (valued at approximately £100 each), an estimated £1,200 in consultancy support, and delivery of a four-hour facilitated workshop. This meaningful intervention not only delivered immediate benefits to the school but also contributed to longer-term capability building within the leadership team.
The Insights Discovery training has had a genuinely positive impact across St Aloysius. It has provided our leaders, teachers and support staff with a shared language for understanding different working styles, improving communication and strengthening collaboration. We have seen greater self-awareness, more effective teamwork and a stronger appreciation of the diverse strengths that individuals bring to the school community. As a governing body, we recognise the value that this investment in people development has delivered and believe it is helping to create a more cohesive, supportive and high-performing culture for both staff and pupils.
