Breedon is supporting a collaborative, landscape-scale nature recovery initiative in the Hope Valley, working alongside farmers, conservation organisations and public bodies to restore hedgerows and enhance biodiversity. Through targeted funding and long-term partnerships, Breedon is helping to strengthen habitat connectivity and deliver lasting environmental benefits across the region.
Habitat fragmentation is a key challenge for wildlife in the Hope Valley, limiting the ability of species to move freely across the landscape and access food and shelter.
In 2025, this challenge was compounded when capital grants for hedge creation were withdrawn early, leaving farmers without the financial support needed to deliver new hedgerow planting. Without intervention, planned environmental improvements - including new hedges and associated infrastructure - would not have gone ahead.
Breedon worked in partnership with Hope Valley Farmers, the Woodland Trust and the Peak District National Park’s Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) programme to support the delivery of hedgerow and tree planting across the valley.
