As part of Breedon Group’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy across its operations, the Kinnegad site required a sustainable solution to help offset our electricity demand from our energy intensive manufacturing process.
The challenge was to introduce on-site renewable generation without disrupting day-to-day operations, while ensuring the system delivered measurable environmental and commercial benefits over the long term.
In conjunction with our project partners Grange Solar, Breedon Cement delivered a photovoltaic (PV) solar installation at the Kinnegad site designed to generate clean, renewable electricity directly at the point of use.
The system was carefully engineered to integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure, maximising available space while maintaining full operational continuity during installation. The project team worked closely with the main construction contractors Grange Solar and the Kinnegad site management to plan and phase the works safely and efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
Once the project was commissioned in Q2 2025, the solar PV system began supplying low-carbon electricity to the site, reducing reliance on grid power and supporting Breedon’s wider decarbonisation strategy.
The Kinnegad PV solar project is now helping to create a more sustainable solution to our electrical energy needs, reduce energy costs, and improve our electrical energy resilience at the site. By generating renewable electricity on-site, Breedon have taken another practical step towards its sustainability targets while maintaining the high performance expected from our manufacturing works.
The project has also provided a valuable blueprint for future renewable energy installations across the Group, demonstrating how solar PV can be successfully deployed at industrial sites to deliver both environmental and commercial value and assist in the journey to be net zero by 2050.
