Many of our sites have a long-standing tradition of supporting their local communities during the festive period. In 2025, we were keen to shine a spotlight on these efforts, celebrate the impact being made, and inspire even more colleagues to get involved across the Group.
To do this, we launched Give Back December, a month-long campaign designed to encourage both individual and team volunteering, community donations, and greater awareness of how colleagues could support their local communities during the festive season.
Throughout December, colleagues from across the UK, Ireland and the US supported a wide range of local charities and community organisations. Activities included toy and gift collections for children and families, foodbank donations, winter clothing drives, hygiene bank collections and support for animal welfare charities.
Toy appeals supported organisations such as Derek’s Tree, Marine Toys for Tots, Angel Trust Toy Appeal, Leeds Children’s Charity, North Wales Superkids, Rotherham Families First and Scarborough Christmas Toy Appeal. Foodbank collections were delivered to Coalville and Norwich Foodbanks, the Trussell Trust in Scotland and Carrigart Community Centre in Belfast, alongside donations to the Hygiene Bank Northern Ireland.
Colleagues also collected winter coats for charities including HMP Bullingdon and Sharewear, donated to the Berkeley Fire Department’s Winter Clothing Drive in Missouri, and supported Immingham Dogs Home with pet food, toys and treats.
In Ireland, our annual Christmas event at Kinnegad once again brought the local community together to celebrate the festive season. Breedon donated €3,800 to Helium, a charity providing creative encounters for children with lifelong health conditions. Colleagues also sponsored the long-running Breedon Cement Christmas Art Competition, with more than 200 children receiving gift vouchers for their artwork.
Across Great Britain, colleagues volunteered their time at community projects including The Green Backyard community garden in Peterborough, tree planting with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust at Overdale Nature Reserve, and packing and sorting donations at Bassetlaw Foodbank in Worksop.
In the United States, colleagues supported over 150 families through a Thanksgiving food drive in the Potosi area, organised a festive bingo event for seniors at the Ageing Ahead Centre, and donated gifts, household items and gift cards through the St Louis County Adopt a Family project. Support was also provided to Christmas for Kids and the Washington County Salvation Army.
Give Back December demonstrated the generosity, commitment and community spirit of our colleagues across the Group.
In December alone, colleagues delivered over 650 volunteer hours and Breedon donated nearly £47,000, helping to support individuals, families and charities in our local communities.
