Product Overview

Breedon Nautilus® is a specialist concrete mix designed for reliable placement in submerged and tidal environments. When conventional concretes risk washout or material loss, Breedon Nautilus maintains its cohesion, ensuring both structural integrity and long-term durability beneath the waterline.

Formulated with an advanced anti‑washout admixture, Breedon Nautilus®  reduces the risk of cement particles dispersing on contact with water. This improves consistency, reduces environmental disturbance, and ensures the concrete remains intact during placement, even in challenging conditions where dewatering is impractical or unsafe.

Suitable for a wide range of marine and civil engineering applications, Breedon Nautilus® is typically designed using CEM I to support effective setting. However, alternative cement types can be accommodated depending on project requirements. Setting time and water movement should be considered, and our technical team is available to provide tailored advice and support.

Why Use Breedon Nautilus® Concrete

Engineered for underwater use
Anti-washout properties reduce cement loss to provide long-term durability and strength.

Protect marine ecosystems
Anti-washout additives prevent cement fines from dispersing into the water, helping to preserve surrounding aquatic life.

High strength and stability
Proven to maintain performance even in flowing and tidal conditions.

Versatile placement
Suitable for placement via tremie method and pump delivery. Breedon Nautilus® can be delivered on site with bagged options which can be used for small-scale and precision applications.

Applications

Breedon Nautilus® can be used on any project where there is a requirement for concrete to be placed underwater, including:

  • Ports and harbours
  • Quay walls
  • Breakwaters
  • Jetty foundations
  • Bridge and pier foundations
  • Dams and reservoirs
  • General under water repairs

Please contact the team to discuss your specific project requirements and application.

FAQs

Underwater concretes, such as Breedon Nautilus®, are specially designed to be placed directly into water.

Breedon Nautilus contains an anti-washout admixture that keeps the mix stable, cohesive, and resistant to dilution. This ensures it sets correctly and maintains long-term strength and durability even when fully underwater.

Specialist underwater concretes, such as Breedon Nautilus®, need to be placed using controlled methods such as tremie pipes or pumping. This reduces the risk of segregation and limits water contamination.

The advanced formulation prevents the loss of cement paste, helping the concrete stay cohesive and achieve a strong, reliable bond even when placed below water.

Breedon Nautilus® is suitable for a wide range of marine and hydraulic structures including bridge piers, docks, underwater foundations, dams, ports and sea walls - anywhere concrete needs to be placed below the waterline.

Contact the team to discuss your specific project requirements and they'll be happy to assist.
