Breedon Nautilus is a specialist underwater concrete mix. It is designed for placement below the waterline, including tidal zones and fully submerged environments, or where pumping water out is impossible or unsafe. It is also suitable for use in locations where environmental protection and structural integrity are paramount.
Unlike standard concretes, Breedon Nautilus uses an anti-washout admixture to increase the cohesion of the concrete, preventing the cement from dispersing in water, maintaining consistency and strength, and ensuring minimal disruption to marine ecosystems.
Breedon Nautilus is typically used with CEMI to aid setting; however it can be designed with other cement types*.

Underwater concrete is specially designed to be placed directly in water without washing out or losing strength. It contains anti-washout admixtures that keep the mix stable and cohesive, ensuring proper setting and durability underwater.
It's essential for marine and hydraulic structures like bridge piers, docks, underwater foundations, dams, ports, and sea walls—anywhere concrete needs to be placed below the waterline.
Breedon Nautilus is placed using techniques like tremie pipes or pumping to minimise segregation and water contamination. Its formulation prevents loss of cement paste, ensuring the mix remains strong and bonds properly even underwater.
Our ready-mix concrete is normally delivered in an 8-wheeler mixer truck that typically carries 7.5m3 of concrete and has a gross weight of 32t. For hard-to-access areas or smaller loads our Breedon Minimix service may be suitable.
