Product Overview

Manage surface water effectively while delivering long-term performance with Breedon PoroPave™ permeable asphalt.

Designed to combine efficient surface water drainage with long-term durability, Breedon PoroPave™ is a permeable asphalt solution that allows water to pass through the surface and into the underlying pavement structure. Its open-graded design helps reduce surface water runoff, minimise standing water and support Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) requirements.

Suitable for private roads, car parks, driveways and other light to moderate traffic applications, Breedon PoroPave™ provides reliable skid resistance and helps maintain safer conditions during wet weather.

As part of a SuDS-compliant pavement system, Breedon PoroPave™ can be combined with open-graded aggregate layers to create an integrated permeable surfacing solution.

Why choose Breedon PoroPave™

Supports SuDS and rapid drainage
The high air void content allows rainwater to pass quickly through the surface, helping manage run-off at source and reducing demand on drainage networks.

Reduces standing water and flooding risk
Breedon PoroPave™ helps to minimise surface water build-up for improved drainage performance.

Filters surface water runoff
Helps filter contaminants from surface water runoff as it moves through the pavement structure.

Durable, low-maintenance solution
Enhanced binder technology improves durability, helping to reduce potholes and delamination caused by freeze-thaw cycles.

For projects requiring a HAPAS-approved permeable asphalt solution, Breedon Porous™ is available under license to accredited installers.

FAQs

Breedon PoroPave™ is a high-performance permeable asphalt designed to deliver exceptional drainage and surface water management.

Testing in accordance with DD229:1996 proves a relative hydraulic conductivity of greater than 0.2 s⁻¹. Testing to BS EN 12616:2003 recorded a water infiltration rate exceeding 12,000 mm/hour.

With approximately 20% in-situ air voids, Breedon PoroPave™ forms a highly permeable, free-draining pavement surface that allows rainwater to pass rapidly through the asphalt and into the underlying pavement structure.

Unlike standard asphalt, which sheds water from the surface and relies on conventional drainage systems, Breedon PoroPave™ allows water to pass directly through the pavement structure. This helps reduce surface water runoff, minimise standing water, and lower the risk of localised flooding.

As a permeable asphalt solution, it also supports Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), making it an ideal choice for developments where effective surface water management is a key requirement.

Breedon PoroPave™ requires different installation to standard asphalt with careful design, preparation and construction to achieve the required drainage performance. The pavement structure must be designed to maintain permeability throughout its service life, with suitable permeable sub-base materials and installation techniques used to prevent contamination and ensure effective water infiltration.

As installation requirements vary depending on the application, traffic loading and site conditions, we recommend contacting our technical team for project-specific guidance and full installation recommendations.

Yes. Breedon PoroPave™ can be installed on sloping sites, although drainage performance may be affected on steeper gradients. To ensure optimal permeability and long-term performance, the pavement design should be tailored to the specific site conditions, including slope, drainage requirements and anticipated traffic loading.

Please contact our technical team to ensure the most appropriate permeable pavement solution is specified for your project.
