Thin surfacing EN13108-2

Asphalt concrete for very thin layers (BBTM) is used on roads as a Surface course with a thickness of 20 to 30mm. The product is a blend of a high proportion of single size coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, filler and polymer modified binder.

When combined the end product is a gap graded mixture that derives strength from the coarse aggregate skeleton that is filled with the mortar of fine aggregate, filler and polymer modified binder.

Benefits & Key Features

  • Thin surfacing is manufactured in accordance with EN 13108-2.
  • Thin surfacing is manufactured with Polymer Modified Binder (PMB)
  • Thin surfacing provides a smooth appearance as the texture produced is negative i.e. below the surface.
  • The negative texture reduces tyre noise so is beneficial in sound reduction when compared with other Surface course materials.
  • Thin surfacing produces exceptional resistance to permanent deformation (wheel track rutting) due to the aggregate skeleton and polymer modified binder used in the design.
