Breedon were appointed Principal Contractor by DP World to deliver the PIF Berth 7 Truck Park Works. Due to Brexit and continued Port expansion, there was a requirement to construct a new 218 space HGV truck park. The works were delivered in a live port environment, with access maintained to all adjacent businesses during project delivery. The project included significant Contractors Design, including Structural Engineering and Mechanical and Electrical design elements.
The 3.3-hectare truck park was delivered to a high standard, achieved through the Project Quality Plan and Programme, which catered for the Hold Points, to accommodate Project Manager inspections and sign-off. The Breedon Project Team used the latest GPS equipment to deliver the project, in parallel with GPS controlled plant and machinery. Key project deliverables included:
- Construction of a new 218 space HGV truck park measuring 3.3 hectares, complete with 1,500m2 of concrete slabs
- Construction of a 340m long by 18m wide two-way trunk access road with a services corridor containing HV/LV, potable water mains, fire water mains and comms services.
- Demolition and reinstatement of the existing flood defence revetment, to accommodate the installation of a new discharge headwall into the River Thames. Works included the installation of 200 linear meters of a new sheet piled wall (up to 14m deep), and a 650mm wide (and up to 2.5m high) capping beam to provide a new flood defence seawall.
- Installation of a new ANPR/CCTV system at the entrances and exits to the yard
- Electrical works involving the installation and commissioning of a new HV substation building
- Installation of new high mast external flood lighting system to the new yard, including 4 nr
- High tower masts, bases, kiosks, chambers and ducting.
- Construction of a new foul drainage system and associated pipe work and effluent treatment system within a reinforced concrete surround bunker.
- Construction of a new storm drainage system, including 1km of surface water drains and two surface water interceptor tanks and a discharge headwall (built through the River Thames revetment boundary).
- Installation and commissioning of a 2-storey canteen facility (capable of accommodating 48 people) and two driver welfare facilities (with keypad access shower facilities and four unisex toilets) of a modular and prefabricated nature.
