Breedon Group's associate, BEAR Scotland, wins Scottish trunk roads maintenance contract worth up to £720M.

Breedon Group plc, the leading construction materials group in Great Britain and Ireland, notes the announcement by its associate company BEAR Scotland Limited, a leading integrated services provider in road maintenance, that it has been confirmed by Transport Scotland as the Operating Company for the new Network Management Contract to manage and maintain Scotland’s South East Trunk Road Unit, an eight-year contract with an option to extend for up to a further four years estimated to be worth up to £720 million.

The news means that BEAR takes responsibility for overseeing the 314 miles of trunk roads across the South East of Scotland from 16 August 2020 until 2028 with a possible four-year extension to 2032.  For the first time the South East Unit includes the iconic Queensferry Crossing and Forth Road Bridge, which was previously a separate contract.  The new contract also takes into account the renewed focus on climate change and sustainability targets.

Alan Mackenzie, Managing Director of Breedon Northern, commented: “We are delighted with this news.  It reinforces BEAR’s reputation for high-quality service and we look forward to supporting them as a materials supplier in the coming years as they work with Transport Scotland to repair and maintain the region’s roads, which are vitally important to the regional economy.”
